Dear Parents and Carers,
I am delighted you have accepted a place for your child at Harris Academy Battersea. Our school vision is to ‘develop aspirational young people that thrive in a changing world’ and this page explains three ways we welcome your child to our school and introduce this vision.
Please confirm your child’s attendance on the compulsory 11th and 12th Transition Days and register any interest in the voluntary summer school (see below) by emailing email@example.com. We look forward to working with you.
Mr R Pritchard (Assistant Principal)
Both Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th July (9:00am – 3:00pm).
The two transition days will allow your child to navigate the school; include a series of ‘taster lessons’; show an experience of school life; and provide an opportunity to meet their Principal, Ms Leigh, and their teachers for September.
Please come with your child to the front entrance of the Academy at 9:00am. Pupils should be wearing their full primary school uniform but with trainers (for a PE lesson).
Food will be provided free of charge on the two days, but students are welcome to bring their own packed lunch. If they could also bring some headphones to support with a reading and numeracy test to be taken on one of the days, that would be helpful.
Your primary school has already been notified of this day, but the start time is slightly different from the letter already sent to them: 09:00 am is correct.
Please confirm your child’s attendance on the compulsory 11th and 12th transition days and register any interest in the voluntary summer school (see below) by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to working with you.
Either Monday 11th or Tuesday 12th July (3:30pm – 6:00pm).
In the evening of both transition days, we invite you to come to the Academy with your child for a face-to-face admissions meeting.
On these days we will review the documents you have submitted electronically; discuss our Home School Agreement; discuss our Summer School; and welcome you into our school community as well as your child.
We will also have uniform suppliers in school should you wish for your child to get fitted for and buy uniform on the day, and there will be an opportunity to meet the Special Educational Needs Coordinator and the Medical Lead. Further communication will follow with a specific time slot for you to attend on one of the two days.
Week One: 8th-12th August or Week Two: 15th-19th August (09:00am – 2:30pm daily).
Over the Summer Holidays across two weeks from 8th – 12th August and 15th – 18th August 2022, we are excited to be hosting a Summer School which will be open to our new Year 7 intake only. Your child will only need to attend for one of these weeks and the summer school is offered free of charge to all families.
Included in the week will be:
- A breaktime snack, lunch and water provided each day
- Supervision and teaching of students from 09:00am to 2:30pm with lessons in eight different subjects from Maths, English and Science to PE and Music, all taking place in small classes with multiple staff in each classroom
- Specific SEND staff on site
- A celebratory trip to Go Ape on the Friday of each week
This free five-day school will include lessons from eight different subjects; a trip to Go Ape; break and lunch food; and we will have specialist learning support available in very small classes to support pupils who may need extra assistance in transitioning to secondary school. We will discuss this offer with you on the 11th and 12th in our face-to-face meeting.
This will be a fantastic opportunity for your child to participate in many activities to help them form positive relationships and develop our core values of knowledge, integrity and resilience. They will also develop self-esteem, confidence, communication and social skills. This will be a valuable opportunity for your son/daughter to work alongside others in their new year group and meet the staff here too ahead of starting school in September.
There are a limited number of places and we do hope that your son/daughter will be able to attend. Please register any interest in the voluntary summer school by emailing email@example.com. Please do not hesitate to get in touch using the same e-mail address if you have any queries. We look forward to working with you.
