A Level courses are studied over two years, the first year known as AS and the second as A2. Exact course specifications can be discussed with your subject teacher or Head of Sixth Form. Please note that a minimum of grade B at GCSE in either your chosen subject or a related subject is required. For A Level Maths, an A or A* grade is required for entry.
Students joining our sixth form can choose between the following A Level courses:
- Creative Writing
- Further Mathematics
- Religious Studies
- Travel & Tourism
- Resistant Materials
- Media Studies
We also offer BTECs in Business Studies, Sport, Music, Performing Arts, and Health and Social Care. These have been designed to develop application skills as well as foster deep knowledge. They will appeal to students who learn theory best through developing practical skills and are excited by the content. The Level 3 BTEC courses do not replace A
Levels but can be equivalent to 1, 2 or 3 A Levels dependent on the course. Students can take additional AS and A Levels alongside these BTEC courses. Minimum entrance for these courses are Merits at Level 2 BTEC courses plus 5 A*– C GCSE passes and a strong commitment to the subject.
Private tuition in English and Maths: All pupils who have not attained a C grade in English and/or Maths at GCSE are required to have private tuition in those subjects until they attain a C grade pass. This will be on a one-to-one or small group basis, in recognition of the fact that these qualifications are so crucial to future success. We are totally committed to helping students achieve these qualifications.
