Westminster Abbey Sixth Form Question Time
On Tuesday 10 February 2026, a group of Sixth Form students travelled to Westminster Abbey to participate in a special Question Time event. The occasion provided students with the valuable opportunity to engage with and listen to the perspectives of a distinguished and diverse panel of speakers.
The panellists included Father Patrick Moriarty, who chaired the discussion, The Rev’d Dr Mariama Ifode-Blease, George Parker, Phil Rosenberg, Dr Debbie Weekes-Bernard, and Munira Wilson. Each speaker brought a unique professional and personal background, offering a wide range of insights into contemporary social and political issues.
The discussion centred around eight key questions submitted by Sixth Form students. These questions addressed some of the most pressing and controversial issues currently facing society, including extending the franchise to 16–17-year-olds, imposing age restrictions on social media usage, and reforming the House of Lords.
Following each response from the panel, students were invited to vote on whether they agreed or disagreed with the issue being discussed. In many cases, the room was divided, reflecting the complexity of the topics and the diversity of opinion among those present. This element of participation encouraged active engagement and critical thinking.
The event underscored the importance of political literacy and informed debate. Several panellists emphasised the significance of young people having a voice in political discourse, particularly as many of these issues directly affect our generation. Overall, the experience reinforced the value of open discussion, respectful disagreement, and civic engagement in a democratic society.
