Parliament Trip

Parliament Trip

On Monday, students of A-Level Politics and History visited the Houses of Parliament and the Supreme Court in Westminster to support their study of political systems and modern Britain and to better understand the way the law-making works in the UK.

Students were able to visit the King’s Robing Room and Royal Gallery where preparations are already underway for the State Opening of Parliament, the House of Lords and the House of Commons, standing at the Despatch Box where countless historical Prime Ministers have stood. Students enjoyed looking at the statues, paintings and architectural quirks, while keeping their eyes peeled for MPs and Lords.

The students then enjoyed an Election workshop where they invented a new political party with a slogan and some key policies. Highlights included free sanitary products for women, breakfasts in schools and reductions in tuition fees.

We then crossed Parliament Square to the Supreme Court where we sat in the Justices’ chairs and learned about the work that they do to check our uncodified constitution.

All in all a fantastic day out to bring learning about Parliament to life!
