Trip to Eastbourne

Trip to Eastbourne

On Wednesdays 15th and 22nd April, our Year 10 geographers travelled to Eastbourne to carry out physical fieldwork as part of their GCSE course.

Having studied coastal management in class, particularly the role of wooden groynes, students had the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting. They used a range of fieldwork techniques to investigate how effective these structures are in reducing longshore drift and protecting the coastline.

Mr Reid, Ms Offley, Ms Williams and Ms Clemente were incredibly proud of how students conducted themselves throughout the trips. They represented the school with maturity and professionalism, which did not go unnoticed. A local shop owner commented that HABS students were “the loveliest group of students that he had ever dealt with,” while the coach driver praised them as “the calmest and most polite” students he had ever driven.

Back in the classroom, students will now analyse their data, present their findings and draw conclusions over the coming weeks—an essential part of their GCSE assessment.

Looking ahead, plans are already underway for the human geography fieldwork, which students will carry out closer to home in Battersea later this year.
