Y12 Trip to LMAX: Bringing Financial Markets to Life

Y12 Business, Economics and Maths Students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit LMAX Exchange, where they experienced the fast-paced world of financial trading first-hand.

A key highlight of the visit was an interactive trading simulation. Students took on different roles within a marketplace: some acted as sellers of raw materials, others as buyers producing goods, and another group traded the finished products. This activity challenged them to think strategically about managing stock, timing their decisions, and negotiating prices to secure the best outcomes—mirroring the dynamics of real financial markets.

During the visit, students also explored the LMAX offices and attended an informative presentation, which provided valuable insight into how global trading platforms operate. They engaged thoughtfully in discussions, asking insightful questions and demonstrating strong curiosity about careers in finance.

An especially memorable moment was meeting David Mercer, CEO of LMAX, and having the opportunity to hear directly about leadership and the industry. Students also showed great initiative by speaking with members of the talent team to learn more about potential internships and work experience opportunities.
