The HABS boys were in action yesterday against a strong Harris Wimbledon side. The boys rose to the challenge and delivered an excellent performance, securing a hard-fought 45–40 victory in a close, nail-biting game.

HMRC came in to host an informative workshop for our Sixth Form students. Victoria and Jonny, from HMRC, explained what the tax system does and what the social implications are. It is great to develop life skills, such as this, with our students!

One of the most exciting BHM celebrations was the school-wide poetry competition, for which students were tasked with creating and presenting poems to mark this year’s theme of ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride’. Congratulations to our winners and to everyone who got involved!

Today marks the last day of Anti-Bullying Week, and we’re learning how to recognise when someone might be experiencing bullying. Look out for changes in mood, behaviour, confidence, or friendships and always speak to a trusted adult if you’re worried about someone. Video

Instrument Lessons For Key Stage 3 Students - Find Out More

Dear Parents and Carers,

The Performing Arts Department are very excited to be able to offer various instrumental lessons at a considerably reduced cost to KS3 students, starting next half term.

HBP4The instrument choices are:

  • Piano
  • Guitar
  • Bass Guitar
  • Vocals
  • Drums
  • Violin
  • Trumpet

The lessons will take place throughout the day, with the actual days being determined by the instrument choices that students make.  They will take place during other lessons on a rotation basis to ensure that students do not miss the same subject regularly. Please be aware that there needs to be a limit on numbers able to take advantage of this project and places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Lessons will be organised as groups of 2/3 students learning together, unless you specify that an individual session is preferred.  Group lessons will cost £3.80 per half hour session; individual lessons can be organised at a higher rate.  These costs are payable in advance on a termly basis for 10 sessions.

For example, a student participating in 10 lessons per term in a group of 3 will need to pay £38 at the beginning of the term.  These payments will also be used to contribute towards the hire of instruments for students to learn and practise on. Students on free school meals will be offered a further discount. It is important to reinforce that instrumental lessons are normally very costly. However, the school is subsidising the rest of the cost payable to the music tutors to ensure that those students that are committed to the regular learning and practising of an instrument are supported.

If you and your child are interested in benefitting from this opportunity, please ask them to collect a form from the Performing Arts Office as soon as possible so that they can express their interest and name their preferred instrument.  However, if you would like more information about the project, please do not hesitate to email me at: m.woodey@harrisbattersea.org.uk.

Thank you for your interest and your continued support for your child’s musical experience.

Yours sincerely,

Madeleine Woodey,

Achievement Director of Performing Arts
