Subject Information

We aim to offer a broad range of subjects to support all of our students to thrive in a changing world and to reach their potential, regardless of what their aspirations are. Students can and do take a combination of both A Level and vocational courses as long as the timetable permits and entry requirements are met.

Click HERE for a brochure of the courses we have on offer.

A Level

A Level courses are studied over two years. Exact course specifications can be discussed with your subject teacher or Head of Sixth Form. Please note that a minimum of grade 7 at GCSE in either your chosen subject or a related subject is required.

Students joining our sixth form can choose between the following A Level courses.

  • 3D Design
  • Art and Design
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Economics
  • English
  • French
  • Geography
  • History
  • Mathematics & Further Mathematics
  • Photography
  • Physics
  • Politics
  • Psychology
  • Spanish
  • Sport
  • Sociology

Vocational courses

We also offer vocational courses (either a BTEC with Pearson or a Cambridge Technical with OCR) in:

  • Applied Science
  • Business
  • Sport
  • Music
  • Performing Arts (Music/Drama)
  • Health and Social Care

These have been designed to develop application skills as well as foster deep knowledge. They will appeal to students who learn theory best through developing practical skills and are excited by the content. These level 3 courses can be equivalent to one or two A-levels dependent on the course.

Minimum entrance requirements for these courses are merits in level 2 vocational courses plus five GCSE good passes (5+) and a strong commitment to the subject.

All pupils who have not attained a grade 4 or above in English (language or literature) and/or Maths at GCSE are required retake these exams until they pass. We will support you to do this on a one-to-one or small group basis, in recognition of the fact that these qualifications are so crucial to future success. We are absolutely committed to helping students achieve these qualifications.
