Holocaust Memorial Day Talk from Generation2Generation
To mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2026, today we welcomed Sandra Miller from Generation2Generation, who came to speak about her Mum, Sabina Miller née Najfeld, who was living in Warsaw when Nazi Germany invaded Poland in 1939.
The Warsaw Ghetto soon became the reality for her and her family. This meant living in horrible conditions that took its toll on her parent's health. Sabina then made her escape from the ghetto to Sokolow, seeking out an aunt who lived there.
A journey of luck and bravery soon began, as Sabina tried to escape the murderous invasion of the Nazis. This fight for survival involved working on farms, a winter living in a trench and adopting the identity of a Polish girl due to be sent to Germany for slave labour.
Eventually, Sabina made it to Germany in 1943 where she worked on three farms and lived out the rest of the war. She met her soon to be husband and they both moved to the UK in 1947 to start their family.
This story was told incredibly well by Sandra, and we are grateful that she continues to share her mother’s story. There was a clear message of tolerance and acceptance, that we know will resonate with our students.
We are incredible impressed by how engaged our students were with this talk, which was evident in the thoughtful and considerate questions that they asked Sanra at the end.
This was a reminder that the responsibility of remembrance doesn’t end with the survivors – it lives on through their children, their grandchildren and through all of us.
Together we commemorate and educate for a better future.
