Principal's Welcome Message, September 2019

‘We develop aspirational young people to thrive in a changing world’

Dear Parents and Carers,

A very warm welcome back to a new academic year, especially to all our new pupils and parents. I do hope that you had a relaxing summer and are ready for this new exciting year.

Year 11 and 13 results

A huge congratulations to all students and staff at Harris Academy Battersea for another superb year of examination results.

83% of students achieved a GCSE Grade 4 or higher in English, and 74% did so in Maths. 72% of students got a Grade 4 or higher in English and Maths. Our Progress 8 is provisionally calculated to be an extraordinary +0.9, meaning students at Harris Battersea do almost one grade better than students at schools with similar intakes.

Equally, Year 13 results were extremely strong with students averaging a grade B. 83% of our students have gone on to further study at university with two securing places at the University of Oxford. The remainder also secured excellent opportunities through employment or apprenticeships. These results were achieved through the hard work and unwavering determination on the part of both students and staff. The staff at the school are dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for all its students; we have the highest aspirations for all our young people and will continue to strive for excellence year on year.

Academy vision and values: 'Knowledge, Resilience and Integrity'

Developing our young people both academically and personally is at the heart of everything we do at Harris Academy Battersea. They should leave us not only having fulfilled their personal best in terms of academic results, but also equipped with our core values of knowledge, resilience and integrity to thrive in all stages of their lives. Equally, we wish for our school and young people to serve the community and a school that the community is proud to have on its doorstep. The values embody the qualities we expect to see in our young people.

Knowledge

Resilience

Integrity

‘I want to learn something new every day’

‘Try, fail, try, fail, try, succeed’

‘I do the right thing even when it is difficult to do so’

  • I will gain knowledge to be able to confidently engage in any discussion, any time.
  • I will think carefully before I trust information I see, hear and read.
  • I will share knowledge to help others.
  • I will always seek to further my own knowledge, now and in the future.
  • I will make links between different pieces of knowledge and subjects.

  • I will give 100% effort 100% of the time.
  • I will understand my emotions and work hard to manage them effectively.
  • I will develop and maintain positive relationships with others even when it is tough to do so.
  • I will take any setback as a learning opportunity.
  • I will try new things outside my comfort zone.

  • I will do the right thing even when no one is looking, and I will encourage others to do so too.
  • I will treat others as they wish to be treated.
  • I will take responsibility for my actions and encourage others to do so.
  • I will support others to be the best they can be.
  • I will respect the diversity, cultures, beliefs and differences of others.

The academic year has begun and I am very pleased to see that all pupils have settled extremely well. They have quickly and efficiently got down to work, embracing the timetable and curriculum on offer to them.

Please keep an eye on our website for all the latest school news and plans for the coming year.

Please do not hesitate in contacting the school at any time if you have anything you would like to discuss and here’s wishing you a successful year. I look forward to seeing you all throughout the year.
