HABS Basketball Teams Shine in Intense Week of Competition

It’s been an action-packed couple of weeks for the HABS basketball teams, with players showing remarkable skill and determination on the court. Over the past six days, the teams have competed in a whirlwind of games, and the results have been nothing short of impressive.

Year 9 Boys: Undefeated and Heading to the Harris Cup FinalsIMG 0905

The Year 9 boys' basketball team has had an exceptional season, going undefeated against other Harris schools in their bracket. They secured dominant wins against Dulwich, Peckham, Wilsden, Wimbledon, and Invictus. On Tuesday, May 13, the boys clinched their spot in the Harris Cup finals with an outstanding 42-26 victory over Invictus in the semi-finals. Standout performances came from Ethan Da Silva and Samuel Ogumolaide, who led the team with incredible energy and skill. They will now face Crystal Palace in the finals, with fans eagerly anticipating what promises to be an exciting matchup.

Year 11 Girls: Defending Champions Reach the Finals

The Year 11 girls’ basketball team has also made it to the finals of the Harris Cup, and they will be defending their title against Crystal Palace. With their eyes on the prize, the team is gearing up for another championship run, though the finals will be postponed until after the exams. With their solid track record and championship pedigree, the Year 11 girls are undoubtedly a team to watch.

Year 9 Girls: A Spot in the Finals Awaits

The Year 9 girls’ team has also made it to the finals of the Harris Cup, where they will take on Harris Merton in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. Their hard work and teamwork have been impressive all season, and they’re excited to show what they can do on the biggest stage.

Year 11 Boys: Semi-Final Heartbreak

The Year 11 boys’ team fought hard in the semi-finals but fell short by just three points against Harris Invictus. Despite the loss, the team showed incredible resilience and sportsmanship, marking an impressive season of growth and development.

In another exciting development, a group of talented HABS students participated in a 3X3 NBA tournament, competing against teams from various schools across the region. Riana Jamal, Ghena Mahamed, Lindsay Manual, Maaida Mohamed, Simar Babla, and Chloe Cousins played up in the tournament, facing off against older teams. Their efforts earned them a well-deserved third-place finish, showcasing their skills and determination.

Looking Ahead

With finals on the horizon for multiple teams, Coach Ken and the entire HABS basketball community are excited to see what the future holds. The teams will continue to push forward, and with exams behind them, the road to the championships will soon be clear.
