Today marks the last day of Anti-Bullying Week, and we’re learning how to recognise when someone might be experiencing bullying. Look out for changes in mood, behaviour, confidence, or friendships and always speak to a trusted adult if you’re worried about someone.

HABS Sustainability Trip to the Science Museum

0ba2010e 7c71 481d aa43 9a1686da48feThe sustainability ambassadors took a trip to the National Science Museum in South Kensington. The first gallery was Energy Revolution and it was great! This is where we were able to explore and interact with the various models and exhibits. It was productive and extremely informative, teaching us the history of energy production so we could comparatively review the most effective and sustainable methods for our future.

We were able to see, by the various models, ways in which people use renewable energy. We debated on the most effective energy source and how fossil fuels help us to understand future technologies. Next we had a short lunch break before going into the IMAX. That was also very enjoyable and it taught us a lot about Antarctica life in an immersive 3D format. This immersive experience showed us the value of wildlife and how killing one species can be detrimental to the whole planet. The harming effects of global warming is affecting the Antarctic continent and whilst we saw the negative affects we also saw that there is hope.

How whales help the environment

Scientists and preservationists are seeing an increase in certain whale groups which will reduce the negative affect on the climate. Whales contribute significantly to mitigate climate change by storing carbon in their bodies (phytoplankton store carbon dioxide emissions, krill eat phytoplankton and whales eat krill). Whales store the carbon dioxide and when they die their bodies sink to the ocean floor, thereby sequestering carbon for centuries. Each great whale can take on approximately 33 tons of carbon, and this is equivalent to 30,000 trees!

All we can say is, the day was completely unforgettable!
