Year 10 Geographers head to the beach
Our Year 10 Geography students swapped their classrooms for the coastline as they embarked on their GCSE Physical Geography fieldwork at Eastbourne Beach.
With clipboards in hand and the sound of waves in the background, students set out to investigate the effectiveness of the beach’s groynes in protecting the coastline from longshore drift. The fieldwork involved measuring the height of sediment on either side of the groynes—vital data that will now be analysed in class to deepen their understanding of coastal processes. Despite the early start and long coach journey, the students showed great enthusiasm and focus throughout the day, working collaboratively to collect accurate and meaningful results.
Of course, it wasn’t all hard work—under the warm summer sun, there was just enough time for a refreshing paddle in the sea and a lively game of football on the sand before heading home. A brilliant blend of learning, teamwork, and seaside fun!
